The Gig Harbor Rotary Foundation was created in 1989 by the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor. It is a non-profit public foundation which collects and distributes scholarship and charitable funds in the greater Gig Harbor community. The foundation has grown to where it has over $2 million in assets. The Gig Harbor Rotary Foundation has already given over 1.25 million dollars in scholarships. The Board is elected by the Rotary Club of Gig Harbor and meets the second Wednesday of each month.
Scholarship applications are due March 1st and are administered by Scholarships of America. Applicants must be attending a Gig Harbor area high school or be a previous recipient of a Mildred McColl scholarship. Peninsula Schools counseling personnel can provide information and applications.
A major portion ($1.5 million) of the endowment funds were provided by the estate of Mildred E McColl who lived on Hales Passage and was a nurse anesthesiologist during WWII. Her legacy lives on in the lives of the hundreds of Gig Harbor area youth through the fund she created.
Another major contribution of over $600,000 came from the estate of Marvin & Marie Spadoni-Natucci. He was a commercial fisherman and the former owner of Natucci Heating and she was a nurse. Their generosity assures educational assistance will be provided throughout the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsulas.
